BEHIND THE SCENES

Dawn Corey Greenaway Founder & President

My journey with breast cancer has profoundly shaped my passion for creating Quinnessential Comforts. On June 27, 2017, at the age of 45, my world came to a halt. Thanks to the unwavering support of my loving family, friends, and incredible medical team—Dr. Hope Rugo, my oncologist; Dr. Laura Esserman, my surgical oncologist; and Dr. Robert Foster, my plastic surgeon—I emerged as a proud survivor. Their support guided me through the reality of my diagnosis, treatment, and beyond.

The outpouring of love and encouragement I received inspired me to transform the pain of that pivotal day into a meaningful purpose. As time has passed, I’ve been able to reflect on the aspects of my journey that mattered most. These reflections led me to create Quinnessential Comforts, a tribute to the community of people who helped me survive and motivated me to give back to the community that saved me.

This endeavor is also deeply personal. It’s named in honor of my daughter, Quinn, who, at just five years old, would fluff my pillow and “tuck me in” each night —a small gesture that provided me with immense comfort. These moments of tenderness, along with other simple comforts, fueled my hope and determination to keep fighting. My focus now is on giving back and helping others find the comfort they need to persevere.

Beyond being a breast cancer survivor, I am a mom to three wonderful teenagers—John, 16; Lucas, 13; and Quinn, 13, the heart and inspiration behind Quinnessential Comforts. I am also a devoted wife, the CEO of my household (a role that brings me great pride and joy), and a dog mom to Cali and Maisy, whose enthusiastic greetings offer solace in our busy lives. I also coach tennis and, most recently, re-entered the workforce after a 14-year hiatus - something I thought I would never have the energy to do after my diagnosis. I love playing tennis, walking, traveling with family and friends, and finding peace by the ocean- my happy place.

I invite you to reflect on what brings you comfort—those things that are Quinnessential to your happiness, purpose, and well-being.

My mom is a breast cancer survivor, and I say that with pride. When she was diagnosed, I was only five years old. I knew she was sick, but I didn’t fully understand that it was cancer. She kept a lot of her worries to herself because she didn’t want me or my brothers to be scared. As any great mom would, she shielded us from the worst of it.

Over the years, my mom has shared her journey with us, and I’ve come to appreciate her bravery even more. I’m grateful for how she protected us back then, but now I’m inspired to learn as much as I can about her experience and to help others going through similar challenges. At the time, I had no idea how much my “tuck-ins” were a comfort to my mom because I did not know what she was going through. Now that I am older, I can appreciate how whatever brings someone comfort can go a long way towards recovery and happiness

Because of my mom’s incredible strength and the way she inspires everyone around her, her nonprofit organization, named after me, was created. This organization provides comfort products to people battling breast cancer, aiming to offer a bit of love and hope to those in their fight.

When I’m not helping out with Quinnessential Comforts, you can find me at school working hard (I LOVE MATH!), at ballet practice (I go five days a week!), working as a teacher’s assistant at ballet, reading, volunteering at BETA Club, hanging out with my friends, or spending time with my family. My favorite vacation spot is Italy, and I love my dogs because they provide me with lots of love and comfort! Balancing everything can be challenging, but I’m proud to be part of something that makes a difference. I hope that someday I can give back in some capacity in the medical field because medical professionals saved my mom’s life, and I want to help do the same for others in the future. Giving back is Quinnessential to my happiness!
